Dental implants
What is a dental implant?
Answer: A dental implant is a metal replacement of a missing tooth root/roots. Connected to the implant is an abutment that connects the replacement tooth crown to the implant. Often, the replacement crown and abutment are connected to easily screw into the implant. A single dental implant can replace one missing tooth or can be combined with other implants to replace multiple missing teeth.
What is the cost of a dental implant?
Answer: The total cost for single implant is between $4500-$5500 when combining the surgical costs (extracting the tooth, placing the implant, etc.) and the restorative costs (abutment, crown, possible temporary crown).
How long does an implant take to heal?
Answer: Once an implant is placed, it takes approximately 3 months for the implant to integrate into the bone. Once the implant is stable, the restorative dentist will take a physical or digital impression to begin the fabrication of the permanent abutment/crown that will screw into the implant.
What are the benefits of a dental implant?
Answer: Unlike dentures, dental implants are fixed in the mouth and the closest replacement option to natural teeth in function and comfort. Unlike traditional bridges, dental implants do not require preparation of neighboring teeth. Dental implants have a great success rate and are very often the most predictable, comfortable, and long-lasting replacement option for missing teeth.
What is the process for a dental implant?
Answer: 2 consultations are advised, one with the restorative dentist, who will assess the overall condition of the mouth and one with the surgeon, who will assess the condition of the bone. They will stay in communication and once the implant is placed and healed, the surgeon will give clearance, and the patient will return to the restorative dentist for the final abutment/crown.
